Cleric Archetype: Elemental Scion
An elemental scion is a variant cleric devoted to a particular element. He may worship a deity associated with a particular element or simply draw power from one of the elemental planes.
An elemental scion differs from the standard cleric as follows:
Class Features Modifications
Unlike the standard cleric, an elemental scion only gains a single domain. He must select his domain from the following: Air, Earth, Fire or Water. This domain selection reflects the particular element of his religion or philosophy and dictates many of his other class features.Elemental scions speak the language associated with their chosen element.
In addition to being unable to cast spells that oppose his alignment, the elemental scion cannot cast spells of the type that oppose his chosen element. This means that an air elemental scion cannot cast earth spells or a water elemental scion cannot cast fire spells and vice versa.
Elemental Bond: Instead of a second domain, an elemental scion gains an elemental bond. This bond can take one of two ways. The first is to channel the energy associated with his chosen element through a particular weapon. The energy associated with each element are as follows: Air (electricity), Earth (acid), Fire (fire), and Water (cold). To active this ability, the elemental scion expends one of his daily channel energy uses as a swift action. Then, for a period of 1 round/level, his weapon does 1 additional point of damage of the particular energy type on each successful attack. At every odd-numbered level, this damage bonus increases by 1 to a maximum of +10 at 19th level. The weapon chosen for this purpose must be of masterwork quality and usually is the favored weapon of the elemental scion’s deity/religion/philosophy. If the elemental scion’s bonded weapon is lost or destroyed, he cannot use this ability again for 30 days or until he gains a level, whichever comes first.
The second type of elemental bond is that elemental scion gains a small elemental of his chosen element as a bonded companion. This elemental acts as an animal companion using the elemental scion’s class level as his effective druid level. Elemental companions receive the same number of hit dice as an animal companion based on the elemental scion’s effective druid level, except that they receive d10s for hit dice instead of d8s. Elemental companions can put skill points in skills other than Climb and Swim. The following are considered class skills for elemental companions: Knowledge (the planes), Perception, and Stealth. In addition, the following are considered class skills for particular elemental companions. Air: Fly and Escape Artist; Earth: Climb and Knowledge (dungeoneering); Fire: Acrobatics; and Water: Escape Artist and Swim.
At 4th level, the elemental become medium-sized.
Channel Energy: The elemental scion’s channel energy ability works differently from the standard cleric ability. He can still heal or harm living creatures based on whether he channels positive or negative energy, respectively. But, his channel energy ability has no effect on undead. Instead, he can use his channel energy ability to heal elementals of his chosen element or harm elementals of the opposing type. The elemental scion chooses whether to heal/harm living creatures, heal elementals, or harm opposing elementals each time he channels energy.
