Wizard Variant: Devout Wizard
Devout wizards are wizards who study the workings of their god just as much as the magic they wield. Their devotion to the identity and ideals of their god has caused their god to grant them limited cleric-like powers, but the extra time spent on their god has caused their arcane studies to falter somewhat.
Arcane School: Devout Wizards lose this ability.
Domains: Pick a god whose alignment is no more than one step away from your own, and pick two domains of that god. You gain those domains and all their powers. When determining the powers and bonus spells granted by these domains, the wizard's effective cleric level is equal to their wizard level. You also gain additional domain spell slots, like a cleric, and may prepare domain spells without a spellbook. If you lose favor with your god, you lose this ability until you atone.
Unlike a cleric, you can prepare all domain spells in your normal spell slots (even if not normally on your list).
Despite normally being innately divine, these spells are always considered arcane. Written versions of these spells are indecipherable by any who are not able to cast the arcane version of the spell. If the spell is normally arcane, then the writings are not special in any way.
Author's Note: A variant I had been tossing around in my head for a while. A nice half-way mark between cleric and wizard, but mostly meant for role-play value for those multi-classing cleric/wizard or who would like to.
Also, fair warning that this may allow wizards in your campaign setting to gain healing spells. If this isn't to your liking you may consider banning or limiting certain domains. I, personally, will not as this variant is a good way to introduce versatility in a small group.
