Lyan

The lawful neutral lyan functions more as a cleric than a fighter, for his church mainly consists only of other lyans, however some churches have a mixture of other priestly classes as well as the lyan. Lyans call their god the Arbiter despite his true name, which is often held sacrosanct and reserved for the most solemn church rituals. (Many believe that the Arbiter is actually Primus, ruler of Nirvana.) Lyans believe that, after death, their souls travel to the Edifice Prime (Nirvana), a celestial reconstruction of the original mythical tower, and serve the Arbiter thereafter. A lyan devotes himself to law and its promotion, and should he ever commit a chaotic act with other courses available, he loses his status in excommunication and becomes forevermore a normal fighter.

Although the rules of the edificial churches (the term for any lyan's church) forbid armor of weapons on consecrated ground, elsewhere lyans wear any type of armor desired, usually leather or studded leather reinforced by a breastplate and gauntlets (which in no way hinder their somatic spell-casting actions). Their mounts are the largest and strongest of their type, their weapons the most fierce, their methods the most efficient and unforgiving in dealing with the dangerous forces of chaos.

The lyan has no strictures other than the rules of his edificial church. When and if he forms his own, he determines his own rules, which must roughly correspond to the Arbiter's standards.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A lyan is proficient with all simple and martial weapons as well as light, medium, and heavy armor, including shields.

Spells
: Beginning at 3rd level, a lyan gains the ability to cast a small number of spells which are drawn from the cleric /wizard spell list. The lyan is the providential warrior of the church, as such they are granted the ability to pray for arcane spells. Due to the lyans rigid thinking they man not take any mind effecting spells. A lyan must choose and prepare his spells in advance.

To prepare or cast a spell, a lyan must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a lyan's spell is 10 + the spell level + the lyan's Wisdom modifier. Like other spellcasters, a lyan can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on the table below. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Wisdom score.

A lyan must spend 3 hours each day in quiet prayer and meditation to regain his daily allotment of spells. A lyan may prepare and cast any spell on the cleric/wizard spell list, provided that he can cast spells of that level, but he must choose which spells to prepare during his daily meditation.

At 3rd level and higher, his caster level is equal to his lyan level – 2.

Detect Chaos (Su): At 1st level, the lyan can detect chaos 20' per level.

Divine Protection (Su): A lyan receives a bonus on saving throws versus chaos magic. This bonus is +1 at 2nd level and increases by 1 at 5th, 8th, 11th, and 14th level.

Divine Health (Su): At 3rd level, a lyan is immune to disease (magical and supernatural).

Mental Fortitude (Su): At 3rd level, a lyan's mind begins to become more rigid in its thought process, thus he is immune to fear.

Martial Training (Ex): At 3rd level, a lyan begins to learn to better dispatch those of the chaotic mindset ( either good, neutral, or evil nature). This bonus is +1 at 3rd level and increases by 1 at 7th, 11th, 14th, and 18th level.

Divine Grace (Su): At 4th level, a lyan gains a bonus to his saves equal to his Charisma bonus.

Rigid Mind (Su): At 8th level, a lyan's grasp on reality strengthens as they become immune to charm spells and spell-like ability. They gain a +4 bonus vs. Illusion spells as well.

Righteous Ardor (Su): At 12th level, a lyan's intense devotion to their deity grants them the ability to shrug off spells cast by nonbelievers. Reduce spells effects by 25% by casters other than those of their deity (beneficial and harmful).

Conviction (Su): At 14th level, a lyan's weapons are treated as lawful-aligned for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Zealous (Su): At 17th level, a lyan gains DR 5/chaos, and may force non lawful's to make a Will save DC = 10 + 1/2 lyan level + Charisma bonus or be dazed. The lyan may use this ability number of times per day equal to their Charisma bonus.

Vehement Defender (Su): At 20th level, the lyan increases his DR to 10/chaos and his attacks are considered bane vs chaos. Thus melee attacks are +2 to hit and +2d6 divine energy to damage.
