Passive Summoning

Summoned creatures last longer but can only attack once.

Prerequisites
Ability to cast a summon monster or summon nature's ally spell.

Benefit
You gain the ability to change the duration of any summon monster or summon nature’s ally spell you cast to 10 minutes per caster level. However, the spell can end early for the following reasons: if the summoned creature successfully attacks, uses a hostile spell or ability, or if the creature takes at least 10 points of damage in a round. When cast this way, the summon spell ends immediately after the summoned creature successfully deals damage with a physical attack, magical attack, or other hostile action.  An attack that dealt no damage because of spell resistance, elemental resistance, or damage reduction does not count as a successful attack.  The summoned creature can take other actions, such as spellcasting and combat maneuvers, without ending the spell.  If the summoned creature successfully uses a hostile spell, spell-like ability, or supernatural ability, this also ends the summon spell, even if that ability did not cause damage. A hostile spell includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. The spell also ends immediately if the summoned creature takes more than 10 points of damage in one round.

If the spell summoned more than one creature, the spell ends for each creature individually.  You can have only one summon spell with a duration increased by this ability at a time.  This ability does not stack with Extend Spell.

Author's Note: This allows a creature to be summoned for tasks other than combat.  It can also be very helpful to low-level casters whose summoned creatures might otherwise fail to do any damage before the spell ends.
