Shadowmind

This is an update Shadowmind prestige class from the 3.5 edition Complete Scoundrel and is intended to be used with the psionics rules for Pathfinder from Psionics Unleashed published by Dreamscarred press.

A shadowmind is a psionic character specializing stealth and manipulation. Many take careers as thieves, spies, or assassins. Often, they specialize in infiltrating enemy organizations. Some shadowminds work as government agents, while others may work for thieves guilds. Many though, are free agents, taking on tasks for the challenge or the money as they choose.

Most shadowminds begin their careers as psions and later diversify their skills and abilities by taking a level of rogue. Telepahts in particular have the easiest time meeting the requirements. Psychic warriors also find the class appealing, although they are more likely to multiclass as a monk than as a rogue.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A shadowmind is proficient with all simple weapons, as well as the rapier, sap, and short sword. She is also proficient with light armor. Armor does not interfere with any of her psionic powers or class abilities.

Powers Known: At every level indicated on the accompanying table, a shadowmind gains additional power points per day and access to new discovered powers as if she had also gained a level in whatever psionic manifesting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If a character had more than one psionic class before becoming a shadowmind, she must decide to which class to add the new level of shadowmind for the purpose of
determining power points per day, powers known, and manifester level.

Expert Manipulator (Ex): A shadowmind's key powers become harder to resist. She adds her class level to the Will save DC to resist being affected by cloud mind, compelling voice, and read thoughts. This bonus does not cost any additional power points.

Spherical Detect Thoughts (Su): A shadowmind can widen the area of her detect thoughts spell or ability into a sphere centered on her, rather than a cone. The radius of the sphere is equal to the length of the cone.

Sneak Attack (Ex): Beginning at 2nd level, a shadowmind deals an extra 1d6 points of damage when flanking an opponent or any time the target would be denied its Dexterity bonus. This extra damage applies to ranged attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. It increases to 2d6 points at 5th level and 3d6 points at 8th level. If a shadowmind gets a sneak attack bonus from another source (such as levels of rogue), the bonuses on damage stack.

Psychic Advantage (Su): By reading her foe’s thoughts, a shadowmind knows where an opponent is planning to strike a split-second after he foe does. In addition, a she can spot weak points in a foe’s defense by observing her enemy’s thoughts. At 3 rd  level, a shadowmind gains an insight bonus of +1 to her armor class and attack rolls against any single foe who has failed a Will save against her read thoughts. This bonus lasts for the duration of the power or until she ceases to concentrate on it. If a shadowmind is caught flat-footed or is otherwise denied her Dexterity bonus, she also loses this insight bonus to her Armor Class.

Combat Telepathy (Su): At 4 th  level, a shadowmind can maintain concentration on detect thoughts as a free action. If the shadowmind manifests another power or uses another psi-like ability, detect thoughts ends.

Quick Compelling Voice: Beginning at 6th level, a shadowmind manifest compelling voice as a swift action without paying any additional power point cost.

Multiple Surface Thoughts (Su): A shadowmind of 7 th  level or higher can simultaneously detect the surface thoughts of any two creatures who fail their Will saves. This means that she gains psychic advantage bonuses against both of them. Once per round as a free action, she can choose new minds to listen in on. At 10 th  level, a shadowmind can simultaneously detect the surface thoughts of four creatures.

Mass Cloud Mind (Ps): At 9th level, a shadowmind adds mass cloud mind to her repertoire (if she doesn’t already know it). She adds her class level to the Will save DC to avoid its effects at no additional power point cost.

Mind Stab (Su): A 10th-level shadowmind can combine a precise blow with a burst of mental energy, removing her presence from the mind and memory of her victim even as she stabs him. Once per round as a free action, immediately after successfully dealing sneak attack damage to an opponent, a shadowmind can manifest cloud mind against that opponent.
