Frenzied Berserker

Some fight for causes both moral and corrupt, others fight for the greed of coin and possessions, and even others for love. The frenzied berserker fights only for the thrill of the battle.

More furious than a raging storm, the frenzied berserker is a whirling cyclone of death and steel upon the battlefield. She fights when lesser men would run, she laughs when others would cry, and she lives when others would die.

Few can match the ferocity of the frenzied berserker and even less are willing to try.

Role: Frenzied berserkers live in the thick of melee combat, hacking and slashing their way through mountains of foes. All frenzied berserkers were once barbarians at some point. The untamed nature of the class appeals to them. Some multiclassed barbarian/fighters or barbarian/rangers may also find the class appealing.

Alignment: All frenzied berserkers are chaotic of some sort. Very few are good, but they are not unheard of. Typically, they wander the countryside alone, searching for a cause and a fight that might sway their violent hearts.

Neutral frenzied berserkers are wandering mercenaries, always on the lookout for the next fight. Evil frenzied berserkers are murderous psychopaths that relish killing and care not who ends up dead on the tip of their blade.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A frenzied berserker gains no new proficiency with any weapons or armor.

AC Bonus (Ex): A thief-acrobat receives a dodge bonus to Armor Class that starts at +1 and improves as the thief-acrobat gains levels, until it reaches +4 at 10th level.

Frenzied Rage (Ex): A frenzied berserker is a whirlwind of death on the battlefield. When she enters a rage, she can choose to make the rage a frenzied rage. If she does so, she gains all the benefits of a normal rage plus she can make one additional attack at her highest base attack bonus when making a full attack (this is not cumulative with any other effects that grant extra attacks, such as haste). Whenever she makes a full attack during a frenzied rage, she suffer a -2 penalty on all attack rolls. Additionally, the penalty to her AC increases from -2 to -4 whenever she activates the frenzied rage.

Frenzied berserker levels stack with existing barbarian levels to determine the rounds of rage the character has per day.

Resist Death's Call (Ex): A frenzied berserker gains an inborn resistance to effects that would fell lesser men. She adds her frenzied berserker level as a bonus on all saves against death spells and effects.

Deathless Frenzy (Ex): Beginning at 2nd-level, a frenzied berserker laughs in the face of death, usually right before she tries to hit death in the face with something, big, heavy, and pointy. The frenzied berserker no longer dies at negative hp equal to her Con score. She adds half of her frenzied berserker level (rounded down) to her Con score to determine the new negative hp total that she dies at. For example, a 4th-level frenzied berserker with a Con of 17 would die at -19 hp, while that same frenzied berserker at 10th-level would die at -22 hp.

Rage Power (Ex): At 2nd-level and every three levels thereafter, the frenzied berserker unlocks hidden talents that make her rages deadlier. This functions as the barbarian's rage power class feature. The characters' levels in frenzied berserker stack with her barbarian levels to determine what rage powers she has access to. For example, a 6th-level barbarian/5th-level frenzied berserker could choose any rage power that requires the character to be 11th-level or lower.

Damage Reduction (Ex): At 3rd level, a frenzied berserker gains damage reduction. Subtract 2 points from the damage the frenzied berserker takes each time she is dealt damage. At 6th level, this damage reduction rises to 3/–. At 9th level, this damage reduction rises to 4/–. Damage reduction can reduce damage to 0 but not below 0.

Bloodlust (Ex): Starting at 4th-level, a frenzied berserker can whip herself into a rage far quicker than normal. She can enter a rage or a frenzied rage as an immediate action.

Improved Frenzied Rage (Ex): At 5th-level the frenzied berserker's frenzied rage improves. When a frenzied berserker enters frenzied rage, the morale bonus to her Strength increases by +2 and the morale bonus on her Will saves increases by +1.

Tireless Rage (Ex): Starting at 7th-level, the frenzied berserker is no longer becomes fatigued at the end of her rage or frenzied rage.

Staunch the Blood (Ex): At 8th-level, no longer does the blood flowing from trivial wounds matter to the frenzied berserker. She becomes immune to bleed effects.

Greater Frenzied Rage (Ex): At 10th-level, the frenzied berserker's rage reaches the pinnacle of its power. When a frenzied berserker enters frenzied rage, the morale bonus to her Strength increases by +2 and the morale bonus on her Will saves increases by +1. These bonuses stack with those granted by the improved frenzied rage ability.

Additionally, she no longer suffers the -2 penalty on her attack rolls when making a full attack and she can make two attacks at her highest base attack bonus as an attack action when in a frenzied rage.

Author's Note: This is an update of the 3rd Edition prestige class. No matter how ridiculous the class was, I always liked it and since Pathfinder came out, I thought I'd try my hand at making it... less ridiculous. Hopefully I've succeeded!
