A Half-Dwarf race that has the ability to be agile or strong while being hardy and wise.
Sunderkin are a Half-Dwarf/Half-Human race of humanoids that generally root in the often trading that goes along between humans and dwarves. Many Sunderkin live among the dwarves in their grand mountain cities because often times humans find the them odd and unnatural births because of their age differences. Therefore Sunderkin retain many attributes of their Dwarf parents, but keep much of their human versatility.
Physical Description: While being shorter than most humans, Sunderkin retain many features of a human.
Society: Many Sunderkin live in Dwarven Cities because most human societies will shut out the Sunderkin, unless there are a prominent amount of dwarves in the city.
Relations: Sunderkin live a fairly solitary lifestyle. They have great respect for the Dwarves that raise them and a smaller respect for the humans that bear them despite many times never seeing many from being cast out. They view Elves, Halflings, and Gnomes as weak. They treat Half-Elves with great respect, but view Half-Orcs as unacceptably tainted.
Alignment/Religion: Despite their Dwarven upbringing, Sunderkin live a diverse lifestyle and choose from any of the deities and pathways, but tend to be chaotic for their separate lifestyle.
Sunderkin Racial Traits
+2 Strength or Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Sunderkin receive either a bonus in strength or dexterity due to their Human versatility, but remain hardy from their dwarven ancestry. The dwarves teach much of their ways so they are wise but not very charismatic. If a Sunderkin grows up among mostly humans they do not gain a Wisdom Bonus.
Medium: Sunderkin are medium but shorter than humans, but taller than dwarves at 4'6"-5'5"
Darkvision: Sunderkin receive darkvision up to 60ft.
Hatred: Sunderkin receive a +1 bonus on attack rolls against humanoid creatures of the orc and goblinoid subtypes due to special training against these hated foes.
Stonecunning: Sunderkin receive a +2 bonus on Perception checks to potentially notice unusual stonework, such as traps and hidden doors located in stone walls or floors. They receive a check to notice such features whenever they pass within 10 feet of them, whether or not they are actively looking.
Skilled: Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Weapon Familiarity: Sunderkin are proficient with battleaxes, heavy picks, and warhammers, and treat any weapon with the word “dwarven” in its name as a martial weapon.
Author's Note: This may seem a bit powered, but it should be remembered that the bonus between Strength and Dexterity is a forced choice. Only one can be picked, and to read carefully the ability section.
