When a Merfolk gains legs (either through a spell or a potion), and has a romantic relationship with a human, the child of this couple will be a Mermaiden. These humanoids are always caring, yet they can tell the difference between good and evil.
Physical Description: A Mermaiden is always female, with either golden-blond, diamond-blue, or seaweed-green hair, which flows out longly. A Mermaiden also has unusually long legs, most likely due to their Merfolk heritige. A Mermaiden's voice is unbelievably serene and as beautiful as the Mermaiden herself. Their skin is extrordinarily soft, and will dry up if not hydrated regularly.
Society: As Mermaiden are a rare race, there is no distinct society for the Merfolk/human hybrids. However, they seem to adapt to any society, as long as it is near a large body of water. A Mermaiden seems to die early if they are near any city with high concentrations of pollution; it is unknown why this is so, but it is likely that their Merfolk heritige makes them more likely to become ill from smog or sludge. A Mermaiden in a city usually takes up the role of a diplomat or an aristocrat, for most Mermaiden are born into a royal or political family.
Relations: Mermaiden are known to get along well with most races, as dwarves, gnomes, elves, halflings, humans, Merfolk, Catfolk, Tengu, aasimars, undines, and even dhampirs and tieflings find Mermaidens beautiful and caring. However, goblins view them as food, hobgoblins and orcs view them as unworthy slaves, and ifrits find them as a puzzle. However, a Mermaiden cares for all races, even those that hate her.
Alignment/Religion: A Mermaiden is always some form of good, whether it is chaotic or lawful. Mermaiden usually worship gods that their families worship, yet, after reaching puberty, they begin to question on which of the gods is the "true" god, and which others are not. Still, a Mermaiden always keeps faith in the god that they worshiped since they were born.
Adventures: A Mermaiden always has curiosity flowing in her blood, and so she leaves her home in order to find her "real" place in the world. Unfortunately, because of their frail design and naive nature, most never find their goal.
Mermaiden-Child Racial Traits
+2 Charisma, +2 Wisdom, -4 Constitution: Mermaiden are beautiful and knowledgable, but they have very frail bodies.
Low-Light Vision: Mermaiden gain the sight ability that their Merfolk parents have, and they can see twice as far as a race with normal vision in conditions of dim light.
Mixed Blood: A Mermaiden is a Humanoid with the human and aquatic subtypes.
Normal Size: Mermaiden are Meduim creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Slow Speed: Mermaiden have a base speed of 20 feet, and a swim speed of 25 feet.
Dual-Minded: Because Mermaiden have two subtypes, they gain a +2 bonus on all Will saving throws.
Gregarious: When a Mermaiden successfully uses Diplomacy to win over an individual, that creature takes a -2 penalty on attempts to resist any of the Mermaiden's Charisma-based skills for the next 24 hours.
Sociable: When a Mermaiden attempts to change a creature's attitude with a Diplomacy check and fails by 5 or more, she can try to influence the creature a second time even if 24 hours have not passed.
Soothing Song: Once per day, a Mermaiden can cast charm person on a humanoid creature. The target must make a Will saving throw or be charmed for 3 turns.
Sensitive Skin: If a Mermaiden is away from water for 12 or more hours, she takes 1 point of Constitution damage after every hour away from water. A Mermaiden can prevent this ability by applying water on her skin once every 12 or less hours, and cancel the ability by placing water on her skin. Putting water on your skin can provoke an enemy to attack.
Languages: Mermaiden begin play speakingCommon and Aquan. Mermaiden with a high Intelligence score can choose from the following languages: Abeoleth, Aklo, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, and Sylvan.
Author's Note: I honestly like the idea of a Merfolk/human hybrid, and this idea has actually been in my head for a long time.
