Iguanian

Iguanians are a humanoid lizard race that stand between 5 and 6 feet tall with 8 to 10 foot tails that are very thin and flexible. Unlike lizardfolk an iguanian can use its tail to wrap around objects including unwary humanoids. Their scales range in color from brown to burnt orange and iguanians are capable of changing the color to blend into natural rock or sand. They have a number of slightly flexible spikes that run from the top of their heads to small of their back.

Early iguanian histories are hard to come by as much of their stories have passed down through oral record, but it is thought that they are somehow descendants of the dragons and have since spread across Golarion. Iguanians are desert creatures and thrive in the heat and sun of The Cinderlands of eastern Varisia.

Not only do iguanians enjoy direct sunlight, but they are unable to produce a certain vitamin without direct sunlight each day. Going more than 48 hours plus a number of hours equal to the iguanians Constitution score without being in direct sunlight causes them to get sick just as if they were starving. Hot temperatures are comfortable to iguanians, who can sustain their bodies by literally soaking up heat. An iguanian that inhabits regions with a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit or above for 24 hours can go two days without the need for food or water. Iguanians bodies are so water efficient they only require half the amount of water that a human does.

Iguanians clash often with Shoanti tribes of The Cinderlands and have on several occasions attempted to barter a truce with the fierce human tribes. All such attempts have ended in bloodshed. Iguanians in the last fifty years have moved towards a more shadowy existence using their natural ability to hide to stay away from the aggressive Shoanti tribes. This change does not sit well with many of the long lived iguanians and the young often still raid Shoanti tribes for their horses and goats.

Iguanians worship and follow Sarenrae and many members of a tribe are actually clerics of Sarenrae. Iguanians see Sarenrae as a fire covered dragon and as such many iguanians are Dragon Shamans (PHB2) and are able to actually breathe fire and gain other draconic-like properties. Very rarely an iguanion is born with the innate ability to wield arcane magic. These sorcerers are often of the draconic bloodline and hold a position of power and prestige in the clan.
