Ursyn (Bear Folk)

Long ago in Golarion during the heyday of the Runelords a grove of dryad druids decided they needed protection from humanity. With judicious spell use they created a race of ursine humanoids to protect themselves and their forest homes. As rangers they see themselves as protectors who gain some magic usage to aid those they protect as well as rescue the lost. As long as one respects the land and lives in harmony with nature, the ursyn are gentle giants who act as guardians of a given area. Despoilers of all stripes are ruthlessly opposed especially those who rape the land to fuel their greed. To say getting on an ursyn's bad side is something that is ill advised is putting it mildly.

Ursyn Racial Traits

+2 Strength, +2 Wisdom, -2 Intelligence: Ursyn are a strong and hearty race who value instinct and intuition over formal knowledge and institutional learning.

Medium Size: Ursyn are medium sized creatures and have no special bonuses based on size.

Normal Speed: Ursyn have a base speed of 30 feet.

Darkvision: Ursyn have Darkvision out to 60 feet.

Keen Senses: Ursyn recieve a +2 bonus on Perception checks.

Weapon Familiarity: Ursyn are proficient with all axes, the fey are known for their oft times twisted sense of humor and the irony of defenders of nature using the very tools often used to destroy them is a joke many are still laughing at today.

Natural Wrestlers: Ursyn are considered to have the feats Improved Unarmed Strike and Improved Grapple as bonus feats. Ursyn unarmed strikes inflict d4 bludgeoning or slashing damage as some of a bear's natural tendencies were purposefully retained even though their hand paws function exactly like that of a normal humanoid.

Languages: Common and Sylvan, they were created by the fey so it is their tongues they were taught to speak. Bonus languages may be any the GM feels comfortable with allowing.

Author's Note: The general idea is answer to a question some have asked: What would Smokey the Bear look and be like in a fantasy setting? I decided to create this race as that answer and a way to get in touch with another side of me. There is no image because I have yet to commission one yet.
