Javian

Javians were once a very nomadic and loose band of people. That is until it was  discovered by outsiders the value of their horns. There are great healing powers to be had from their horns and they were hunted down by those who would profit from it. These hunters were so merciless it brought the Javians to the brink of extinction. They were able to band together at the last hour of their existence and after many savage battles, fight off the poachers.

JavianPersonality: Javians are known for being a peaceful and tightly-knit group.  They are wary of outsiders, because of the past atrocities committed against them. They are also known to be true friends to those who gain their trust. They are a fierce tribal people who will defend their homes and liberty to the death.

Physical Description: Javian males tend to be a little taller and heavier than females. They range from 6' to 8' ft. tall and weigh anywhere from 325 to 575 lbs. Their tough rhino like skin ranges in color from black to brown to gray or even white, and their eyes are normally dark. Males rarely have hair, while the females tend to keep their coarse hair short. Their hair runs the gamut of colors and can be very striking. Javians age similarly to humans.

Relations: Javians are friendly enough with the outside world to get along. Those who have been inside their villages know a completely different people. They are a jovial and lively people who seem to need the smallest reason to celebrate. Once an outsider has gained the trust of a javian they are invited to that javian's tribe as a family member. They regularly venture to the cities to trade and sell goods, but they always have safeguards in place to keep themselves from harm.

Alignment: The Javian race as a whole are a delightful people. They tend to be Good-aligned, and can range anywhere on the Lawful to Chaotic side.

Javian Lands: Javians usually live on savannahs and temperate and subtemperate forests. They always find themselves a nice, large watering hole to settle down next to. Their mudbath huts are treasured by those who can gain access to them for their recuperative properties.

Religion: As the Javians were being slaughtered piecemeal there was one Javian who cried to the gods for help. He was answered by a benevolent being who told him to gather the few Javians that were left. This being guided those that were left and they were able to bond together and drive the hunters back.

Names: Names are given at birth. They are also given another name at the end of their spirit quest that fits the deeds accomplished and their personality.

Adventurers: Javians take up adventuring usually as a means to fulfill their spirit quests. There are those who do it for completely different reasons i.e. free spirt, misfit, etc. On the whole they are trying to prove their worth to the tribe. Many, after having proved their worth rejoin their adventuring friends (remember, fiercely loyal).

Javian Rituals: Most Javians worship their spiritual benefactor. It is a rite of passage to go out into the world and save another's life just as their race was saved from destruction by their protector. When they successfully return there is a naming ceremony. They also at that time have their natural armor augmented with armor in a very painful ritual (+2 natural armor) with artistic and intimidating inscriptions. When a Javian dies they have the usual funeral rites with one exception. The horn is taken and made into healing elixirs (as the spell Heal, 2 to 4 elixirs depending on horn size), and given to their next of kin.

Javian Racial Traits

+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity: Javians are brute strong and hardy, but only tend to look graceful while charging.

Medium Size: Javian are medium sized creatures and have no special bonuses based on size.

Normal Speed: Javians have a base speed of 30 ft.

Natural Attack: A Javian may use his horn as a natural weapon to make a gore attack, dealing 1d6 points of damage. If fighting without a weapon, a Javian uses his horn as a primary attack, adding 1-1/2 times his Strength bonus to damage. If armed with a weapon, he can use his horn or weapon, as he chooses. When making a full attack, a Javian uses the weapon as his primary attack along with the horn as a natural secondary attack (at -5 penalty and half Str damage). A Javian's natural attacks are treated as light, off-hand weapons for determining the penalty to your other attacks. Feats such as Two-Weapon Fighting and Multiattack can reduce these penalties. If the Javian gets extra attacks by virtue of a base attack bonus of +6 or higher, he gets them only with his manufactured weapons not his horn.

Powerful Charge: If a Javian charges his gore attack deals 2d6 (double normal) damage, plus 1 and a half times his strength modifier.

Tough Hide: Javians have naturally thick skin which grants them a +2 Natural Armor Bonus.

Weapon Familiarity: Javians recieve the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat for the Javian Urgosh (reference picture, same stats as Dwarven Urgosh).

Languages: Javians speak their native tongue, Javian, and one additional language to begin with. Javians with high Intelligence  scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic).
