Ralk

Ralk are an ingenious race of inventors and tinkerers. The Ralk tend to keep to themselves in their cavernous communities so that they may discover more about the properties of the world at their leisure. Most Ralk choose to study how to manipulate the world through mundane means, but a choice few do research the magical side. Ralkians physical build is almost identical to a human's, with the primary differences being extremely pale skin and brilliantly patterned eyes.

Ralk Racial Traits

+2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom

Medium/Small (see below)

30 ft/20 ft. Speed (see below)

Munchkinism
: Though normally of medium size, a strange hereditary flaw causes approximately 10% of all Ralk children to stop growing in early childhood, making them small sized creatures. A player may choose to play either size category, but in a Ralkian community the ratio should be visible. Small sized Ralk have no special social stigma among their kind other than the occasional well-meaning (and usually reciprocated) wise-crack. If one parent is a small Ralk, the child is 40% likely to be small. If both parents are small Ralk then it is 90% likely. A couple consisting of medium sized Ralk only has a 2% chance to have a small Ralk child. Ralk have a base land speed of 30 feet, unless they have the hereditary flaw that makes them small in which case they have a base land speed of 20ft.

Darkvision: Ralk can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Ingenuity: A Ralk receives Skill Focus in any one craft skill as a bonus feat at 1st level.

Reasoning: A Ralk may use their Intelligence modifier in place of their Wisdom modifier for will saves against illusion spells or effects.

Knowledgeable: Ralk pick two knowledge skills at 1st level and receive a +2 racial bonus on knowledge checks of those types and can succeed at a knowledge check of up to DC 15 untrained with them. This choice cannot be changed once made.

Weapon Familiarity: Ralk treat repeating crossbows as martial weapons.

Languages: Ralk begin play speaking Common and Ralkian. Ralk with high intelligence scores can choose from the following: Undercommon, Terran, Infernal, Abyssal, Celestial, or Draconic.

Author's Note: This is a race I'm developing as one of a small set of new "primary" races for my campaign setting and I'm posting it here to see what others think of the balance of it.
