Snake Charm

Teela could never tolerate the spells cast by other sorcerers. One night her viper familiar was wrapped around her arm and a moment of inspiration turned into a most useful spell.

School conjuration; Level druid 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, F
Range 30 ft.
Target/Effect/Area 1 medium, small,  or tiny creature
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no

Upon casting this spell a tiny magical snake appears in your hand. By flinging the snake at a target creature and with a successful ranged touch attack, the snake enlarges and wraps around the target.

The target creature is then the subject of a grapple combat maneuver check each round at the beginning of your turn, including the round that snake charm is cast. When determining the snake's CMB, the snake uses your caster level as its base attack bonus and receives a +2 bonus due to its Strength. If the initial combat maneuver check is unsuccessful, the snake disappears and the spell ends.

The grappled target cannot move without first breaking the grapple. All other movement is prohibited unless the creature breaks the grapple first. The snake charm spell receives a +5 bonus on grapple checks made against a target it has successfully grappled in a previous round, but cannot move foes or pin foes. The CMD of the snake, for the purposes of escaping the grapple, is equal to 10 + its CMB.

When the spell ends the snake disappears.

Author's Note: This spell can also replace the 2nd Level Trickery Patron Spell for the Witch class.
