School evocation [force]; Level wizard 3
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Target/Effect/Area 1 creature
Duration Instantaneous
Saving Throw Fortitude (see below); Spell Resistance yes
When cast, this spell sends out a crackling beam of blue-white light. The caster must succeed on a ranged touch attack to hit with the spell, whereupon it does 1d6+1 per level (max 20d6+20) damage. The caster also takes a backlash damage equal to his or her HD. This also creates a loud crack and bright flash- not enough to be a distraction, but (to say the least) detrimental to stealth (Perception DC5 to notice). A creature may make a fortitude save for half damage, but this is at a -4.
Author's Note: Mostly my DM's wording, but the core element is simple: you need to kill one guy, and only one, without killing the entire party as they circle in on him. Or maybe you really, really, don't like him.
