School conjuration (creation) [water]; Level druid 4, sorcerer/wizard 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range medium (100 ft + 10 ft/lvl)
Target one creature every 3 caster levels
Duration 1 round per caster level + concentration
Saving Throw Fortitude negates; Spell Resistance yes
As Drowning Grasp covers the target in a layer of water, he will be able to hold his breath for a number of rounds equal to twice his Constitution score, although this number is reduced by 1 every time he takes a standard of full-round action. Afterward, he starts to drown. Creatures that do not breathe, such as undead, constructs and elementals, are unaffected by this spell. The target is allowed a Fortitude saving throw when first affected by the spell. Following saving throws to avoid drowning do not end the spell. However, in order to sustain the effect, the caster must make Concentration checks every 2 rounds after 1 round per caster level has passed (thus, a 12th level wizard will have to do Concentration checks every 2 rounds after the initial 12 rounds have passed). The DC for this roll is 14, +1 for each additional roll.
