This spell grants the caster a supernatural capacity to smell precious metals and gems, as if he had the Scent skill with a +10 magical bonus. Each one will smell differently, and the caster will be able to easily differentiate the smell of, for example, gold from silver, and obsidian from rubies. Bigger concentrations will naturally emit clearer scents, though some particularly powerful sources may make it hard for the caster to tell one from the other (for example, he might have problems smelling a diamond stored inside a coffer filled with gold pieces). Purer metals and gems will also emit clearer smells, while non-precious metals and stone will partially block it. The caster may pick up any smell within a radius of 50 feet + 10 feet per caster level. In order to track and identify a smell, the caster must succeed at a Scent roll, with a DC 10 + the modifiers in the following table:
