Rancid Deluge

This spell was developed by wizards who needed a less-than-lethal method of crowd control when dealing with unruly mobs. It was adapted from the druidic version, which was originally employed for discouraging the exploitation of nature with less-than-lethal force.

Rancid deluge creates a spherical burst of rotting, liquid, putrefaction in the target area.

School conjuration (creation); Level druid 3, sorcerer/wizard 3
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target/Effect/Area 20 ft-radius burst
Duration instantaneous; See text
Saving Throw see text; Spell Resistance no

Targets that are susceptible to nausea must make Fortitude saves or become sickened for 1d4 rounds + 1 round / 4 caster levels [max 1d4+5]. Targets failing their saves by 5 or more are instead nauseated for the same duration. The rancid juices created by the spell evaporate quickly and pose no threat after the initial detonation. Targets with the scent ability take a -2 penalty on their saves. Despite its watery nature, the burst has no effect on open flames. Material Components: A foul concoction of offal, bile, and juices  from the musk gland of a creature such as a skunk, snake, or mashed stink beetles, stored in a scent-proof container.

Author's Note: I'm a big fan of crowd-control effects & battlefield manipulation.  This ought to take the fight out of a mob of angry villagers without killing anyone.
