Iron Skeleton

The iron ore slips beneath your skin and adheres itself to your bones, making you substantially more durable at the expense of a little pain.

School necromancy; Level sorcerer/wizard 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M
Range touch
Target/Effect/Area one creature touched
Duration 1minute/level
Saving Throw see text; Spell Resistance no

The target gains damage reduction 10/slashing or piercing. This damage reduction stacks with any other damage reduction of the same type. The target also gains a +2 natural armor bonus, which stacks with natural armor from other sources.

Upon this spell being cast, the target takes 1d6 damage from the metal passing through its flesh. Any creature larger than medium size takes an additional 1d6 damage for each size increment above medium - for instance, a large creature would take 2d6 points of damage, and a huge creature would take 3d6. A succesful fortitude save reduces this damage by half.

When this spell ends, the iron sloughs off the target's skeleton and back out through the skin. At this time, the target takes the above damage again, with another fortitude save for half damage. The iron that falls off the target's skeleton is unuseable for any purpose.

This spell has no effect on creatures without skeletons, such as constructs and oozes. If the target creature does not have flesh (such as skeletal undead), it does not take damage from this spell.

Material Component - One chunk of iron ore worth 10gp. If the target creature is larger than medium size, an additional piece of ore worth 10gp must be provided for each size increment above medium.

Author's Note: At the GM's option, this could instead be from the Transmutation school.
