Blade Chain

A weapon originating from the Forest Elves, a blade chain is a long chain about 10-12 feet long at one end is a circle or crescent blade, a warrior takes the chain and swings it allowing it to reach and sweep an area around the wielder.

Type: Exotic Two-Handed Melee Weapon

Name Cost Dmg (S) Dmg (M) Critical Range Weight Type Special
Blade Chain
100 gp 1d6 1d8 19-20/x2 - 10 lbs. Slashing Trip, Cleave, Reach

The blade chain is treated as a melee weapon with a 10-foot reach. The blade chain can also be used to attack opponents adjacent to the weilder, however, the damage dealt is reduced by one step (1d6 becomes 1d4, 1d8 becomes 1d6).

The blade chain is naturally good at cleaving because when used the chain is swung causing the weapon to slash in a circular motion. Characters with the cleave feat can attack one more target than normally allowed by the feat when using the blade chain. With greater cleave the blade chain doesn’t require targets to be adjacent from each other just within range of the weapon.

A blade chain requires two hands to use but when additional damage from high strength is only applied once like a one-handed weapon.

The blade chain can be used with the Weapon Finesse feat. Blade chains take additional tempering to achieve a weapon that is sturdy enough to withstand combat and a blade that can withstand the force of the attacks.
