Monster Feat: Latch On
Some tiny and small creatures latch on to their victims and become far more deadly.
"Get it off! Get it off!" shouted the rogue when the housecat-sized spider latched on to his back. Though the warrior pulled with all his (considerable) strength, the monster plunged its fangs deep into the rogue's neck.
Prerequisites
Tiny or Small size
Benefit
Monsters with this feat can forgo their normal attack to perform a "latch on" attack. If successful, this attack gives them a "latched on" state which improves both their attack roll and their threat range.
The Latch On attack...
- ... is a touch attack.
- ... does no damage. If successful adds the Latched On state.
- ... can only be made if the creature either drops from above, or is flanking the victim. If flanking, give each creature a 1/3 chance (1 or 2 on a d6) to use the latch on attack instead of its normal attack.
The Latched On state gives the follow bonuses:
- +6 attack and victim no longer has an AC bonus due to dexterity
- +2 increased threat range. (So threat range of 20 become 18-20.)
- can only be removed by killing the creature.
