An automaton is a special type of construct. Forged from iron, steel or, if the creature is psionic, entropium, they are metal cases for souls, willingly or not, to be placed in.

Created by powerful psionists, there are some who create armies of these constructs. However the creator has no direct control over the result, and thus may find themselves the figure of its wrath.

CR: +0

Stat Adjustments: +2 Str, -2 Dex, Constitution is removed. (The creature will no longer need to take most Con checks, as they do not breath, eat, sleep etc, but if it is required, treat the creature's Con as 10, regardless of its original value).

HP: +2 per HD

Weight: x10

Speed: Land speed is reduced by 5ft per round.

Armor Class: Natural Armour +2

Damage Reduction: (HD/2)/adamantium rounding up

Special Attacks: Treats unarmed strikes as armed.

A psionist automaton suffers a -2 penalty to concentration checks, manifester level checks and spell DCs if in an iron or steel body. If the body is made of entropium, the psionist instead gets a +1 to power DCs.

An automaton suffers a -2 on all Charisma based skill checks except against other automata.

Creature Type changes to Construct, and it gains the following Construct traits: Immunity to disease, death effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.

It is not subject to ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, energy drain, or nonlethal damage.

Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless).

Should the automaton's Hp ever fall below 0, it is destroyed. The physical body may be repaired, but there is no method of restoring a soul which has been lost from the body.

An automaton requires no food, drink or sleep.

Note that an automaton does not gain any other abilities of a construct. Note also that an automaton has free will, and is not in any way controlled by its creator.

Soul in Metal: An automaton cannot be resurrected as an automaton. If a true resurrection spell is cast on it, the creature is resurrected in its original form. If the creature's original body still exists, a normal resurrection spell may be cast on it. Other types of resurrection may be used in a similar fashion.

If Resurrection or True Resurrection is cast on an automaton that is still alive, the soul of the automaton is immediately torn from its metal body, and returns to its original body. (The target of a Resurrection spell used in this way must still be the original body). Other types of permanent resurrection may be used in this way, but any spell that provides only temporary resurrection do not function in this way.

In all cases, the time of death of the creature is counted as the time the soul left it's original body, not the time the construct was destroyed.

Creation: Requires the use of the 'Mind Switch' or 'True Mind Switch' psionic power. However, when used, instead of switching the manifester's soul and the subject's, the caster may make a manifester level check (DC 25), to force the mind of the subject into a prepared automaton body. The subject is allowed its Will save as normal. Should the manifester take the check and fail, the power does not activate at all. If the target is willing, no will save or manifester check is required.

Creating the physical body costs 10,000 gp if made of iron or steel, and 15,000 if made of entropium.

The following are required to make the body: Craft Construct, Skill Craft (armor) or Craft (weapons) DC 20
