TACTICS
Captain Ladybird prefers to attack from surprise and with advantage, though recently she has grown more reckless with her endeavors.  If pressed to hand to hand combat, she is very adept with the rapier.  She is new to becoming a duelist and has been challenging sword masters at an alarming rate.  However, if the fight is going badly, she will not hesitate to discharge her hand crossbow and flee as long as her ship is secure.  True to her nickname, Sara often sings nonsense melodies during the fight and her crew understands the sounds as code and responds to her tones.

DESCRIPTION
Sara Teague is attractive in a playful, pixie-like fashion.  She is slender with long legs that are hidden beneath baggy pants.  She favors tight bodices and leather vests that accentuate her looks as much as to provide mobility along the ship’s deck.  Sara is rarely without a mischievous smile and a devilish glint in her eye.

Sara has merfolk in her bloodline that is visible in her lower body and neck.  Sara has light blue scales around her neck and below the knees.  Her calves and feet also have webbing that extends from her skin that becomes active and at her control when in the water in similar fashion to that of fins.

PERSONALITY
Captain Ladybird is a harsh and cocky taskmaster, but she loves her crew and jokes and taunts them to no end.  She favors non-human crews and assembles her pirate crew with unusual teams of humanoids from the Borderlands and Wilds.  Since taking over the Silverfish from the legendary Captain Redcap, she treats the vessel like a baby, with most of her adventures meant to enhance the ship or crew in some fashion.

BACKGROUND
Sara was only 13 when Captain Redcap caught her trying to steal the magical rubies out of Silverfish’s bow sprit.  Sara’s swimming prowess and ability to breathe underwater for long periods of time made her efforts nearly impossible to detect, but Captain Redcap wasn’t the best River Pirate for nothing.  He laid a trap that ensnared the young thief and brought her into his crew.  She soon found the Captain was a man to be trusted in a world where she could trust no other.

Sara flourished under the care of Redcap and their relationship grew into one of a father and daughter.  Redcap taught the young woman everything he knew and molded her into a fetching pirate, expert river sailor, and able leader.  When it became time for Redcap to retire, she took hold of the reigns of the boat with nary a pause.

Sara now plies the larger rivers as Captain of the Silverfish, taking mostly risky transportation jobs.  Occasionally she will harbor other sinister dealings and has a reputation of being discrete and trustworthy.

Author's Note: Here are some helpful hooks:
  • The party needs to find able transportation into an uninhabited region of the river or lake.  No other captains will accept the job except the Captain of the Silverfish.
  • A party member has a magic item stolen by a thief that uses the Silverfish as an escape plan.
  • Sara needs some land lubbers to help round out a treasure hunting party for an underground cavern beneath the river.  Once in the air pockets within the caves, she needs some muscle to help retrieve an ancient city’s reputedly famous solid gold pillars.
