DESCRIPTION
This young street urchin always has smudges about his hands, arms, and face.  He carries a shoulder sack that contains his coal pastels and some worn parchment in an old cloth roll.  He fidgets profusely and his eyes are restless, never looking anyone directly in the eye.

PERSONALITY
The only time Saint Coal is calm is when he draws with his coal pastels.  During these moments the youth appears peaceful and serene.  He is very shy around everyone except those who enquire about his art.  If someone shows a serious interest in his work, he may become talkative.

BACKGROUND
This young boy was found in a cold chimney in a city temple at the age of six. He was raised by the adepts for most of his youth. They soon realized he had little ambition and skill and relegated him to the lower staff duties. During his work, he found cleaning the hearth to be a welcome distraction to his difficult life. He chose the best charcoal and began rubbing designs onto the walls of the fireplaces. The other adepts dubbed him “Saint Coal”. The temple tolerated the behavior over the years until they found a picture of a beast scrawled onto the back of a parchment used in the services.

The temple immediately removed him and placed him back to the streets where the boy began trying to make a living using his coal pastels. Despite the lack of training, Saint Coal is a very good artist, though he has never sold a rubbing in a proper shop. His pictures are very life-like and his work much more detailed than most.

A year ago, an adventurer wandered by Saint Coal on the street. He liked his art and convinced him to paint a portrait of himself. However, he soon became angered when the boy barely looked at him while his sketched. He grabbed the parchment from the boy and was shocked at the detail the boy had achieved with just a glance. He realized Saint Coal could remember anything he saw and sent about convincing the boy to help his adventuring party.

Now Saint Coal is not only known for his art, but for occasionally helping adventuring parties and the locals who have need of his services. Saint Coal doesn’t like the new jobs and only takes them when he needs extra coins for his parchment. He still sells his work on the streets and takes a straw mattress below the street as his home.
