DESCRIPTION
Scummy Pete is a low-down dirty scumbag who owes a lot of people a lot of money.
PERSONALITY
Scummy Pete is a total scumbag. He'd rob candy from a baby, eat some, then try and sell it back to the kid for double its worth. Not particularly bloodthirsty, he'd rather run a con game and rob you blind rather than knife you.

BACKGROUND
Scummy Pete was born and raised in several coastal cities. He never knew his mother, and his father took whatever sailing job he could find. Scummy Pete was often left with unscrupulous fellows when his father went off to earn a living. Scummy Pete soon took to thieving to survive, but when he was 12 or so, he enlisted as a cabin boy on a pirate ship. After a few years of being the captains whipping boy, Scummy Pete joined as a full-fledged pirate, and fought in many sea battles. As he grew older, he found he had an interest in magic, so he found several different magical tomes but was only really able to master some very minor spells. He retired to about four coastal cities where he began to rack up a fortune in ga,bling debts, but he always seems to charm the thugs sent to teach him a lesson, much to the ire of several guildmasters.

Author's Note: I ran this guy as a side quest for my players. One of my players has the Leadership feat, and sent his cohort to town to start a small thieves guild. When the PC showed up and caught up with his cohort, his cohort had already been charmed by Scummy Pete and hilarity ensued. The PC actually killed Scummy Pete, and when he went to the tavern to collect his reward, he was faced with several of Scummy Pete's "friends" who were angry at the PC for killing thier buddy. I now torment my player endlessly; his house is constantly covered with rotten veggies when he returns there, and I usually have NPC's paint various graffiti where the PC can see it (such as "Whistle if you love Scummy Pete", and "Scummy Pete Drank Here" kind of stuff. Next session I think I am going to have some kid kick him in the shins. As time goes on I may even make a "Scummy Pete Remembrance Day", and the parade will go right past the pc's house and do all sorts of nasty things to it.
